Detroit Lions sign C.J Gardener-Johnson

BREAKING NEWS: Detroit Lions have just made a huge acquisition in the NFL offseason, signing star safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson from the Philadelphia Eagles. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the one-year deal is worth up to $8 million, making it a hefty investment for the Lions.

Gardner-Johnson is a young and talented safety, who spent just one season in Philadelphia, but made a significant impact on the team's dominant defense and secondary. He finished the season tied with three other players for the most interceptions in the league with six, showcasing his impressive skillset on the field. This year, he was also ranked as the third-best safety in free agency, making him a highly sought-after player.

The acquisition of Gardner-Johnson is a significant move for the Lions, who have been looking to upgrade their defense this offseason. With Gardner-Johnson's arrival, the Lions' secondary is sure to see a major improvement, adding depth and strength to an already talented unit. This move demonstrates the Lions' commitment to building a strong team that can compete at the highest level.

Brad Holmes, the Lions' general manager, has done a great job in the offseason of filling holes, keeping depth, and targeting select players to upgrade the team. With the addition of Gardner-Johnson, the Lions are looking like a strong contender in the NFC this season. They won't be sneaking up on anyone, as they will be a team to watch out for in the upcoming season.

Overall, the Detroit Lions' acquisition of C.J. Gardner-Johnson is a huge move that will undoubtedly improve the team's chances of success. With a strong secondary and talented defense, the Lions are poised to make a run at the playoffs this season.

Detroit Lions sign David Montgomery to a 3 year Deal

David Montgomery signs with Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have made a big move by signing former NFC North rival running back, David Montgomery from the Chicago Bears. The Lions have reportedly agreed to a three-year, $18 million contract with Montgomery, who had an impressive 2022 season with 801 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns.

Montgomery, who has only rushed for 1000 yards once in his first four seasons, is expected to thrive in Detroit's much-improved offensive line. As a power back, he fits perfectly into the identity of the Lions' coach, Dan Campbell. Additionally, he will complement the team's current running back, D'Andre Swift, very well.

This signing is definitely a positive move for the Lions. With Montgomery being a young and talented player, he has the potential to become the starting running back and go-to player for goal-line situations. Meanwhile, Swift can be utilized as a third-down back to relieve Montgomery from carrying the ball too often.

Overall, the Lions have made a strong addition to their team with the signing of Montgomery. Fans can expect him to make an impact on the field and contribute to the team's success in the upcoming seasons.

Cameron Sutton signs with Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions signed Cameron Sutton from Steelers

The Detroit Lions have made a significant move in free agency, signing cornerback Cameron Sutton to a three-year deal worth $33M with $22.5M guaranteed. Sutton, who was arguably one of the top three corners available in free agency this year, brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Lions' secondary.

Sutton had an impressive 2022 season, allowing just a 47.9 percent completion rate and a 65.3 passer rating in his coverage. He also had three interceptions and 15 pass breakups. As a full-time starter, Sutton earned a career-best 72.2 grade and allowed just 0.76 yards per coverage snap, placing him 11th among cornerbacks with at least 200 coverage snaps on the season.

One of Sutton's most significant strengths is his versatility, as he can play both inside and outside positions. While he has been a starter on the outside for the past two seasons, he has the ability to offer the Lions added flexibility in their defense.

Sutton's impressive stats from last season speak for themselves. He allowed just 32 receptions on 72 targets, and his 44.4% completion percentage allowed was tied for the 4th-lowest in a season since 2016 (min. 50 targets).

The Lions' secondary struggled in 2022, allowing the highest CPOE (+1.5%) in the NFL. Sutton's signing should help the Lions improve their pass defense significantly and provide some much-needed depth to their cornerback position. With Sutton in the mix, the Lions' defense is shaping up to be much more formidable in the upcoming season.

The Detroit Lions resign Isaiah Buggs

The Detroit Lions have made an important move to solidify their defensive line by re-signing Isaiah Buggs to a two-year deal worth up to $6 million. Buggs, who was a free agent, showed late in the season that he has the potential to be a full-time starter or provide quality depth for the Lions.

Buggs' extension includes a fully guaranteed $2.1 million at signing, indicating how much the Lions value him. He was a key contributor on the defensive line last season, and his re-signing is a significant step in the right direction for the Lions' defense.

Buggs had a big game in week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings, where he showed his potential by making life difficult for the Vikings interior linemen. He recorded five pressures, one sack, two hits, and two hurries, with a 16.7 pass rush productivity mark and a 27.8 percent pass rush win rate. All of these statistics demonstrate his effectiveness in disrupting the middle of Minnesota's offense.

Although Buggs' PFF grade last season was 53.9, he has shown flashes of brilliance throughout his career. He played a crucial role in helping the University of Alabama win a national championship in 2018 before joining the NFL in 2019.

Buggs wanted to return to Detroit, as he believes that the team is building towards something great. His re-signing is a testament to the Lions' commitment to improving their defense and creating a strong team for the future.

Overall, Buggs' re-signing is a positive sign for the Lions, and fans will be eager to see how he performs next season. If the Lions can upgrade other positions through the draft or free agency, they could be well on their way to building a dominant defense.

Top 10 defensive free agents for the Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are looking to improve their defense in the upcoming season, and there are several free agent prospects that could help them achieve that goal. Here are the top 10 defensive free agents the Lions should consider signing

  1. Dalvin Tomlinson, DT, Vikings: Tomlinson is a disruptive interior pass rusher and a solid force against the run. He would make an immediate impact on the Lions' defensive line.
  2. David Long, LB, Titans: Long is a terrific upfield linebacker who excels at getting after the run and rushing the passer. While he is below-average in coverage, he would be a valuable addition to the Lions' defense.
  3. Javon Hargrave, DT, Eagles: Hargrave is a pass-rushing specialist who has been productive in Philadelphia, with 11 career sacks. He would be a valuable addition to the Lions' defensive line.
  4. Zach Allen, DT, Cardinals: Allen is a good pass rusher with six sacks but is also a slightly above average run defender. He would be a valuable addition to the Lions' defensive line.
  5. Dre'Mont Jones, DT, Broncos: Jones was an effective inside pass rusher in Denver last season with seven sacks, but he is a limited player against the run.
  6. Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Bills: Edmunds is a versatile linebacker who can make a big impact in coverage and on the pass rush. He would be a valuable addition to the Lions' defense.
  7. Jamel Dean, CB, Buccaneers: Dean is a physical cornerback who can provide great run support. He would be a valuable addition to the Lions' secondary.
  8. Lavonte David, ILB, Buccaneers: David is a well-rounded playmaker who can provide pop against both the run and the pass. He would be a valuable addition to the Lions' defense.
  9. Bobby Wagner, LB, Rams: Wagner is an elite run defender and active in coverage, and his veteran leadership would be valuable to the Lions' defense.
  10. Kaden Elliss, LB, Saints: Elliss broke out in 2022 with his ability to fly around the field and make plays on the ball wherever needed. He would be a valuable addition to the Lions' linebacker corps.

Overall, these free agent prospects could make a big impact on the Lions' defense in the upcoming season. It will be interesting to see which players they target and ultimately sign in free agency.

Bijan Robinson would be a all-pro in Detroit

Bijan Robinson could be the next Barry Sanders in Detroit

The Detroit Lions have had a tumultuous few years, with an ever-changing roster and inconsistent play on the field. As they prepare for the upcoming NFL draft, many experts are predicting that they may look to add a talented running back to their roster with the 18th overall pick. One player who has been generating a lot of buzz in this regard is Bijan Robinson, the five-star high school recruit who has been tearing up the college football landscape for the Texas Longhorns.

Robinson has been a force to be reckoned with during his time in college, demonstrating impressive skills both as a runner and as a receiver. Despite limited snaps as a receiver, he has shown that he has the potential to be a dual-threat back at the next level, with an impressive 2.14 yards per route when split out wide. Additionally, his 92.0 rushing grade this season is the second-best in the entire FBS, a testament to his ability to break tackles and make defenders miss.

One of the most impressive things about Robinson is his ability to break tackles. This season, he has already broken 65 tackles, which is 10 more than any other player in college football. His 39% career forced missed tackle rate is also tied for the best in the PFF College era, putting him in the same conversation as Javonte Williams, who was recently drafted in the second round by the Denver Broncos.

It's not just his physical abilities that make Robinson an intriguing prospect, though. He's also a student of the game, and has cited Barry Sanders as one of his biggest inspirations. In fact, he watches film of Sanders every other day, trying to learn from the Hall of Famer's legendary moves and footwork. This kind of dedication and passion is exactly what coaches and scouts look for in a player, and could be a strong indicator of Robinson's potential to excel at the next level.

Of course, there are always risks associated with drafting a running back in the first round, especially given the physical toll that the position takes on players. But if the Lions are looking to add a talented young back to their roster, it's hard to imagine a better option than Robinson. With his impressive combination of size, speed, agility, and football IQ, he could be the next Barry Sanders for Detroit, and help lead the team back to relevance in the years to come.

Could the Detroit Lions trade for DeAndre Hopkins

DeAndre Hopkins to Detroit would be a great fit

The Detroit Lions could be a dark horse team this NFL offseason, trying to acquiring wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Arizona Cardinals. Hopkins is an older receiver who didn't play a full year last season, but that might work to his advantage by keeping him fresher coming out next season.

One potential hurdle in acquiring Hopkins is his salary, which is set to be $19 million in 2023 and around $15 million in 2024. This is market price to pay for a pro bowl  receiver, but it could be a bargain the following year, especially if Hopkins continues to play at a high level.

The Lions could also use a veteran wide receiver to replace DJ Chark if they don't re-sign him. Bringing Hopkins in would give them a proven playmaker who can make a big impact on the field. Additionally, Jameson Williams would make the perfect protégé for Hopkins, as his speed would complement Hopkins' ability to get open underneath.

Those two years with Hopkins could also give the Lions a little bit of time to work on a new contract for young wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. While upgrading the receiving core, acquiring Hopkins could potentially make the Lions a Super Bowl contending team for the next few years. The Lions could make a bold move by trading for Hopkins, and it could pay off big time in the long run.

Slay can be 3rd Ex Lions to win a Super Bowl in a row

Darius slay could be a three-peat of  Ex Lions players, to win a Super Bowl  if Philadelphia can beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

In recent years, two former Detroit Lions players have captured Super Bowl victories with their new teams. The first was Ndamukong Suh, who helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers shut down the high-scoring Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV(2021). Suh was a key player in the game, recording 1.5 sacks of the Buccaneers' three sacks.

The following year(2022), it was Matthew Stafford's turn to lift the Lombardi Trophy. In his first season with the Los Angeles Rams, the veteran quarterback led his team to Super Bowl LVI and secured the championship with a narrow victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Now, Darius Slay has a chance to continue this streak of ex-Lions winning Super Bowls on their new teams. Slay is a starting cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles.

If the Eagles are able to win the Super Bowl, it would be the third year in a row that a former Detroit Lions player has won the championship with their new team.

It's worth noting that Suh is also a member of the Eagles this season, and would be a two-time Super Bowl champion. If Slay is able to join him as a champion, it would be a remarkable feat for both players and a testament to the talent that has come through the Lions organization over the years.

Rookie Jalen Duren has Monster Double Double Game

The Detroit Pistons have a new rookie to watch out for. Jalen Duren had a remarkable Game on Friday, scoring 30 points, grabbing 17 rebounds, and blocking four shots in a double-overtime win against the San Antonio Spurs. He played for a total of 42 minutes during the game, showing his stamina and dedication.

What's even more impressive is that Duren is the second-youngest player in NBA history to achieve 30 points and 15 rebounds in a game,

with only LeBron James accomplishing the feat at a younger age. He also joins fellow rookie Paolo Banchero as the only two teenagers in NBA history with a game of 30 and 15.

Standing at 6'11" and weighing 250 pounds, Duren is already drawing comparisons to the likes of Dwight Howard. With his excellent performance, it's clear that the Pistons got a steal in the NBA draft. Duren's game has even sparked talks of him being a future All-Star in the league.

It's still early days for Duren, but he's already making waves in the NBA. Fans and analysts alike are excited to see what he can do in the future, and if this game is anything to go by, it looks like he has a bright career ahead of him
