Could the Detroit Lions trade for DeAndre Hopkins

DeAndre Hopkins to Detroit would be a great fit

The Detroit Lions could be a dark horse team this NFL offseason, trying to acquiring wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Arizona Cardinals. Hopkins is an older receiver who didn't play a full year last season, but that might work to his advantage by keeping him fresher coming out next season.

One potential hurdle in acquiring Hopkins is his salary, which is set to be $19 million in 2023 and around $15 million in 2024. This is market price to pay for a pro bowl  receiver, but it could be a bargain the following year, especially if Hopkins continues to play at a high level.

The Lions could also use a veteran wide receiver to replace DJ Chark if they don't re-sign him. Bringing Hopkins in would give them a proven playmaker who can make a big impact on the field. Additionally, Jameson Williams would make the perfect protégé for Hopkins, as his speed would complement Hopkins' ability to get open underneath.

Those two years with Hopkins could also give the Lions a little bit of time to work on a new contract for young wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. While upgrading the receiving core, acquiring Hopkins could potentially make the Lions a Super Bowl contending team for the next few years. The Lions could make a bold move by trading for Hopkins, and it could pay off big time in the long run.
